What You Can Do This Weekend
(Information provided by Equal Justice USA and Amnesty International; compiled by Criminal Injustice at Critical Mass Progress)
Georgia’s District Attorney, Larry Chisolm, has the power to stop the execution of Troy Davis, scheduled for Wednesday, 21 September, but has not done so.
That leaves Troy Davis’ fate in the hands of the Georgia Board of Pardons & Paroles – and a clemency hearing this coming Monday, 19 September.
This week, more than 600,000 petition signatures were delivered to Georgia authorities.
But we must do more! Here’s what you can do this weekend!
- Email/fax letters to the GA Board of Pardons & Paroles before Monday morning. Use the salutation “Dear Board Members.” Email: Clemency_Information@pap.state.ga.us and Webmaster@pap.state.ga.us. Fax: +1 404 651 8502. No telephone calls will be accepted, so don’t waste time trying to call.
- In addition: there is a new Amnesty petition for the DA of the case. Sign it!
- Amnesty wants people to twitter about the case and clemency hearing.
- Post this alert & embed links on your Facebook page and share widely.
Background Information

The case against Troy Davis an African American man for the murder of a white police officer consisted entirely of witness testimony which contained inconsistencies even at the time of the trial. Since then, all but two of the state’s non-police witnesses from the trial have recanted or contradicted their testimony.
Many of these witnesses have stated in sworn affidavits that they were pressured or coerced by police into testifying or signing statements against Troy Davis. |
