Thank you for this series.  I’m still a little struck dumb and saddened by what took place to cause the migration of this series here, but I have to admit to being thrilled to be able to read you.  Thank you for making note of the organizations working towards a more humane country, and thank you for the link to Queer Injustice.  Happy Holidays to all and thanks again for all that you do to improve bouts of spiritual impoverishment in this world.

    • Thank you GN..

So happy to be here –and to be able to be with you again!

Hope you had a great day yesterday!

I did have a great day yesterday; I hope that you did as well! My family had one of the better Thanksgivings than we’ve had in recent years. I was able to cook for a nice crowd of people who were all in very good spirits (one of my little cousins was just discharged from the military—I had no idea that they use all sorts of tricks and shenanigans to try to keep people from discharging). I’m not really into Black Friday, so I’m just relaxing today, probably going to go for a walk sometime soon. How was your day yesterday sooth?

        • good

sorry to be slow here — just got to the farm and was out seeing my many cats sheep and equines :)

And it occurs to me…if we wanted to pursue that book club idea, these would be the perfect digs for it. Although I still have my copies of Zami, couldn’t think of a better book to start with than Queer Injustice…

        • Yes!!

there is a paperback edition coming out soon too :)

Hi, Kali, and thank you for being here.

  • Mariame Kaba

Kay, thank YOU for this and for all that you do to contribute to the work of dismantling the PIC and of creating a more humane world.  I am so grateful to all of the people you mentioned in this post and so many more… We are truly at a special historical moment in my opinion.  I believe that we have to seize our opportunities to challenge state violence and to build a truly inclusive movement that will ultimately lead to a transformed culture.  Peace and solidarity to you and the entire criminal injustice family.

    • Amen

thank you Mariame for all you do..

      Blessings

MK – what kind words.  Yes, the list is really endless – and very heartening when I pause to really think of what that means.  Agree that we are at a special and critical historical moment with regard to challenging state violence.  So grateful for you.  Wishing you every good thing; sending love.

  • Awwww , thanks!

I’m thankful to be part of such a wonderful community of amazing anti-prison activists.

“It is time for Oregon to consider a different approach,” Governor
Kitzhaber, a Democrat elected last fall, said in a news conference in
Salem on Tuesday afternoon. “I refuse to be a part of this compromised
and inequitable system any longer; and I will not allow further
    executions while I am governor.”

  • Beautifully written, Kay.  Thank you ladies for being such an inspiration and for gracing this space, the blogosphere, and meat space with your fiery, passionate presence, word, and activism.

To Sing Us Out into the Evening and Into a More Just Future

Nina Simone, and her powerful version of Bob Dylan’s “I Shall be Released.”  A song for all of us, because our nation and all of its people suffer needlessly when we structure an entire society in the long shadow of fear, policing, torture, and imprisonment.

Blessings to you all, beautiful people.  If you are traveling, travel well and safely, and may your holiday be filled with love – and hopefully some laughter.
