  • Richard Lyon

The recent bruising that Rupert Murdock has suffered in the UK is a rare example of the corporate media being called to account for criminal behavior. While some individuals have been brought up on criminal charges, none have yet graced to gates of Her Majesty’s prisons. Individuals employed by corporate persons are usually successful at hiding behind the corporate skirts.

    •  @Richard Lyon Rare indeed Richard

      too rare

    •  @Richard Lyon what i would really like to see is the use of existing tools like RICO to force asset forfeiture for violators.. Just like they do with actual people charged with drug offenses

It has to cost them — that is the only way to stop this

@nancy a heitzeg I don’t think that there is any real substitute for putting flesh and blood bodies in jail and throwing away the key. The big financial bust of 2008 made it clear that the robber barons don’t really care about risk to the corporate assets.

        •  @Richard Lyon Well i am an abolitionist so i don’t support prison  – save a few exceptions

The $$$$$$ costs have to outweigh the benefits or one Madoff gets exchanged for the next

        • Richard Lyon

@nancy a heitzeg To accomplish that without incarceration you would need to make officers and directors subject to unlimited personal liability.

        •  @Richard Lyon yes that too

Strict personal liability for CEOs Maybe Board and some key stockholders too

        • Richard Lyon

@nancy a heitzeg Yep and cut off the offshore bank accounts.

        •  @Richard Lyon Oh Poor Mitt — such a hard day for him :)
