• Very moving clarion call to action, Nancy.  And even more poignant now that Romney has gone full birther.  A sad day in America.  Romney is a spineless coward who is going to get his ass handed to him and will certainly get his comeuppance — one way or another.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Anne Romney need to remove the stick they’ve got up their ass.  Pardon my french.  Despicable and contemptible people will stop at nothing for more power, including fanning the flames of white entitlement and supremacy.

    •  @Seeta i love your French seeta :)

you are so right — on all counts

    • badphairy

@Seeta French would be “s’en tenir à leur cul”. The things watching Deadwood with the subtitles on will teach you.

  • rubyr

This may explain some of it — pretty frightening:

    •  @rubyr political scientists have long documented the irrational thinking of the electorate when making political choices — employing heuristics or shorthands to select candidates.  Of course, the problem with the GOP misinformation propaganda campaign wouldn’t be so much of a problem if we had more investigative journalists do their jobs (putting aside bad supreme court decisions ala Citizens United).

      • rubyr

@Seeta Hey Seeta!! Hope all is well with you and yours.

        You are so right!!

        •  @rubyr Same to you rubyr!! Have a great weekend.  Relax up and meditate plenty before the American Taliban convention starts Monday!!

        • rubyr

@Seeta Thanks. I won’t watch even one minute of it. Uh uh.

  • rubyr

Thanks, darlin’. I am going to keep this URL and post it in every diary where people are
disheartened. It will help them a lot. I have seen a lot of people feeling despair. You words will be a great inspiration to all.

  • KayWhitlock

    Yes, everything is at stake.

And when we win the presidential election, we must continue to work like hell for deep forms of social and economic justice.  Because the minute we become complacent…

    •  @KayWhitlock exactly Kay

Eternal Vigilance —  as they like to say…

  • rubyr

This is a beautiful plea and has left me sobbing. I am very afraid that people are not going to wake up in time. The Dems are so arrogant and sure that because Romney is a blubbering idiot that Obama has it in the bag — he absolutely does not — he has to get past the MOT (margin of theft) and that is a hard goal.

Dems just cannot shift and force themselves to think the way Repugs and especially Tea Party rethugs, think. Those people do not find Romney stupid or offensive and if they do, they will vote for him anyway.

I am also worried about the “disappointed” Democrats. They live in an idealized dream world where things should change with no effort, where the world becomes a very liberal place overnight, and nothing that offends or worries them comes to pass under a Dem president. These people scare me the second most. The people who scare me the most are the people who think the two parties are the same — these people terrify me. I know people who feel this way and they cannot be budged. They cannot seem to see the evidence right before their eyes. Willful failure to perceive and differentiate.

Blessed be, Nancy Heitzeg!! You are a true wonder on this Earth and I cannot say it
enough times. Kay and Seeta too — if only people would listen to the three of you — really listen.

    •  @rubyr oh rubyr —  yes

the Margin of Theft — the sleepwalkers..

This is an emergency –what will it take to make that plain??

      i wish i knew

      • rubyr

@nancy a heitzeg Well, what you are doing helps hugely.
We have a horrible situation here. Some guy who got fired yesterday, just went and killed the manager of the store and then went onto the street and shot 9 other people. He was shot on the scene. We have GOT to get rid of these guns as per the recent diary here. So tragic. Four are in critical condition. It happened right by the Empire State Building, which is such a crowded area when people are on the way to work and there are so many tourists there. I am babbling!!1 Sorry.

        •  @rubyr i can’t imagine — just say the news alert

Too many guns and so much anger.. And police profiling all the wrong people

        • rubyr

@nancy a heitzeg Can I post the link to this diary in a diary on Kos? I will understand if you say no but there is a diary from yesterday titled “http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/08/23/1123514/-Need-help-with-outrage-fatigue”.

No one is writing with such eloquence as you did here. The diary is from yesterday but I think people will see it. Many people are feeling like the person in that diary. I think your wonderful words might inspire. Feel free to say no. They do not deserve to have your work  on the GOS.

        •  @rubyr yes you may post a link back to this rubyr

thanks always for caring so much

        • badphairy

@nancy a heitzeg  @rubyr Not only that, recent reports suggest that some of the victims were wounded by police fire. Highlighting just one of the many problems with the argument for arming everyone. Physics doesn’t play favorites.

        • rubyr

@badphairy  @nancy a heitzeg Yeah, we’re just now hearing that they don’t know if the victims were shot by the original shooter or the police. They should have Tasered him. That is a hugely populated area always and especially at that time of day. I hate guns!!

        •  @badphairy  @rubyr sigh

          had not heard that yet

        • badphairy

@nancy a heitzeg  @rubyr The agitation for circular firing should begin any moment in the twittersphere. There are some days I think the primates that are winning, aren’t us.

        • rubyr

@nancy a heitzeg  @badphairy New news. Bad business.

        •  @badphairy  @rubyr heh
you know i believe the primates would do better

          Sheep even :)

        • rubyr

@badphairy  @nancy a heitzeg I think she meant the lesser primates….ha ha ha

        • rubyr

@nancy a heitzeg  @badphairy Well, this has been a difficult day and you just made me belly laugh. A LOL is not enough. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

          I’m voting for the sheep.

        •  @rubyr  @nancy a heitzeg Very sad, indeed.  Life is so fragile and so precious.  Unbelievable that another tragedy like this would befall, yet so expected given the laxity of our gun laws.  When will it end?  When will the mentally ill get the treatment they need?  When will the culture evolve?  When will we prioritize life and reason over profit (from gun sales)?

    • KayWhitlock

@rubyr Do everything you can to help others understand that the “disappointment” they feel is being stoked by the Right – and that it is a mosquito bite compared to what they will get under Republican rule.  We cannot leave ANYTHING, any effort, undone.

      • rubyr

@KayWhitlock I know it. I cannot figure out HOW these people come to this conclusion. I guess it’s easy to believe the parties are the same. Then you don’t have to do anything,

        •  @rubyr  @KayWhitlock Yes too much false equivalency TV or straight out FOX propaganda

  • i know i am preaching to the choir here,,

Just had to say it — the urgency is too great

    • rubyr

@nancy a heitzeg Post this everywhere you can think of. It is very,
very powerful. Maybe a few people will respond and get to work.

    • Domino14

      Listen to the Planet.
      love that.

      this is great Nancy.
