The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, a 4-acre commemorative site on the National Mall, will be officially dedicated on Aug. 28.
It is the first memorial to be dedicated [on the National Mall] to a non-white leader and an African-American. Twenty-six-year-old Martin Luther King, Jr. was the chosen leader of the Montgomery bus boycott, oft-credited as giving birth to the civil rights movement. Left out of the story, however, are the women who organized and led the Montgomery bus boycott.
