On September 14th immigrant advocates around the country are coordinating a national day of action against the proposed E-Verify bill in congress.
E-Verify is a sinister combination of Arizona’s immigration policy with Wisconsin’s approach to labor.
- Under this legislation, unscrupulous bosses would have one more tool for busting unions and keeping workers in the shadows.
- There is currently a federal legislative proposal that will make the E-verify program mandatory for all employers and all workers nationwide.
- E-Verify doesn’t protect jobs, it attacks workers. It allows employers to electronic verify U.S. citizen and non citizen employees’ employment eligibility with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
- E-Verify doesn’t help small businesses, it adds to their costs
- Workers are not disposable, we are human!
Workers need real solutions, not more scapegoating. What the country desperately needs is a jobs program that creates new opportunities, enforcement of laws for safe working conditions and adequate pay. We don’t need more policies that score political points and move the country backwards.
