    Let’s see:  black people are about 12.8 percent of the population and about half of those receiving life sentences.  And POC in general constitute more than 60% of all prisoners. 

    We have an aging prisoner population, thanks to mass incarceration, in a system unable and unequipped to care for a senior population.

    And although this isn’t in the article, we have a prison system that now houses more people with mental illness than any other public or private institution, including health care institutions.

    Hmmm…what’s wrong with this picture?
