OFA Sues to Restore Early Ohio Voting
You know the Republicans have done and will do everything within their power to steal this election. The voter suppression laws that have cropped up all over the country are bankrolled by the GOP. Romney, pulling a Karl Rove, is now accusing Obama of trying to suppress military votes in Ohio by — get this — bringing a law suit to “restore in-person early voting for all Ohioans during the three days prior to Election Day.” Does Romney think people are this stupid? Unfortunately, yes, there are many low-information voters out there who will eat this up no matter what the facts say. But if Romney thinks this shit is gonna fly with Independent voters and moderate Republicans, he’s got another thing coming.

Unemployment Among Vets Falls to 3 Year Low
Hey, Romney, do you know that under President Obama, unemployment among veterans has fallen to the lowest level in the last three years:

The Obama administration has championed legislation aimed at reducing the unemployment for veterans, including the passage late last year of tax incentives to businesses that hire veterans and signing an executive order to help as many as 126,000 veterans receive certification and training necessary for various manufacturing jobs around the country. Hundreds of Thousands of People Lose Unemployment Benefits Due to GOP-Backed Cuts
Speaking of unemployment and jobs, the jobs report as we know was better than expected for July. The unemployment rate ticked up slightly, unfortunately. But you know who doesn’t give a damn about the unemployed? Here’s a hint: hundreds of thousands of people lost their unemployment benefits due to Republican-backed cuts. 230,000 people, in fact.

GOP and Romney Seek to Exploit Your Labor to Subsidize their Wealth
There is no question that the economy is improving, but doing so at a snails pace due to the Republican obstructionism of Obama’s efforts to make things better. Does Romney and Co. think we haven’t been watching for the past four years the war that the Republican Congress has waged on the working and middle class? Does Romney honestly think we are going to let an emotionless sociopath like himself take the White House so that he can make himself and his cronies richer at the expense of your hard work and labor? People are still hurting across America because of GOP “trickle-down” bullshit economics that began over 30 years ago.

For those who vote GOP, the GOP continues to rob you in plain sight, while giving you a false sense of security that you are part of their little club. How’s that working out for you? The same folks who blindly support Romney wonder why his tax returns are germane to his candidacy. Whatever it is that Mitt is hiding in his tax returns goes to the very heart of his credibility and to this country’s tax code, which Romney seeks to reform in a way that allows him and people like him to game the system — again, at the expense of your hard work and labor. Romney, who has unequivocally endorsed the Ryan plan, seeks to raise taxes on 95% of Americans. Guess who the other 5% might be?

What are You Hiding in Your Tax Returns Mitt? Romney Lied About His Returns Before
The man has consistently lied about his taxes in the past, just as he is so quick to lie about virtually everything else. Romney lied about his residency on his tax returns:

Romney, benefiting from white male heterosexual privilege, got a free ride all of these years without seriously being questioned about his credentials, his financial ethics and compliance with the law.

Not this time.

Funnily enough, the RNC chairman has called Harry Reid “Dirty Harry,” while several top Republican strategists have practically begged Romney to release at least a decade of his tax returns.

Will Romney Vet the VP Candidate’s Returns?
In the next couple of weeks, Romney will try to change the subject, deflect, and project. He’s going to be picking his running mate in the next few days in advance of the GOP convention to take place later this month. Will Romney vet the VP candidate’s returns? The irony wreaks. And Romney is emitting a stink so foul that I’m not even sure who would be stupid enough to want to sign up for the VP position.

UPDATE: Massacre in Wisconsin, Members of Sikh Temple are Killed
Another senseless tragedy has befallen America: a gun toting individual went into a Sikh temple in Wisconsin and massacred several people who were simply meditating peacefully on their lives and their relationship to all things spiritual. This senseless gun violence comes barely two weeks after the Aurora shooting. Unlike the Aurora shooting, I have no doubt in my mind that this shooting was a hate crime — people targeted because they were perceived as being different, possibly Muslim. And with hateful rhetoric from people like Bachmann, an elected official of Congress, is there any wonder that we are now re-entering the Wild Wild West era? As Max Read said, there is simply no way to politicize a tragedy, because the tragedy doesn’t exist in a vacuum, but is the result of culture that makes it an eventuality:

There is no such thing as “politicizing” tragedy. James Holmes did not materialize in a movie theater in Aurora this morning, free of any relationship to law and authority and the structures of power in this country; nor did he exit those relationships and structures by murdering 12 people and injuring several dozen more. Before he entered the theater, he purchased guns, whether legally or illegally, under a framework of laws and regulations governed and negotiated by politics; in the parking lot outside, he was arrested by a police force whose salaries, equipment, tactics and rights were shaped and determined by politics. Holmes’ ability to seek, or to not seek, mental health care; the government’s ability, or inability, to lock up persons deemed unstable — these are things decided and directed by politics. You cannot “politicize” a tragedy because the tragedy is already political. When you talk about the tragedy you’re already talking about politics.

The President has already spoken on gun violence and the need to take steps to ensure more tragedies like this don’t happen. Guns do not belong in hateful, sociopathic hands. Period.

If you look at the comments posted to the above youtube video, you will see it is riddled with disrespectful diatribes by gun toting zealots. We cannot allow ourselves to be bullied by those who prioritize their guns over maintaining a civil society. And we certainly cannot allow ourselves to be bullied by the likes of the profiteering NRA.

It is tough to discuss these issues, particularly in a volatile election year, but it is long time that America grow up and discuss them. Each candidate should spell out their plan to address the increasing gun violence in this country and how it threatens the very notion of our government, way of life, and civil society.
