Of his residency Steve says, “It is a privilege to be an artist-in-residence at Belwin Conservancy. Nature, the first symphony, has always and continues to inspire artists. I hope to inspire a deeper respect for the earth and all beings through my workshops at Belwin. I will compose an ecoscore that celebrates Belwin and nature near the end of my residency. A composer must not only perceive the world but through their art work to preserve and protect wilderness.”http://www.belwin.org/events/169/
Emmy award-winning composer Steve Heitzeg is recognized for his orchestral, choral and chamber music written in celebration of the natural world, with evocative and lyrical scores frequently including naturally-found instruments such as stones, driftwood, Joshua Tree branches, manatee and beluga whale bones and sea shells.
